Top 5 Things To Do in Seremban On Your Next Weekend Break

18 Jul 2020

Less than an hour away from Kuala Lumpur lies Seremban, the capital city of Negeri Sembilan. A city brimming with old-world charm - transport yourself back into a different time period through exploring the ramshackle district of Chinese shophouses and the regal colonial buildings downtown. If you’re looking for an enjoyable drive away from the busy streets of Kuala Lumpur, check out our top 5 things to do in Seremban on your next weekend break:

1. Wake up to nature at Seremban Lake Gardens

One of the oldest natural lake gardens in the country - this 10-acre park is strategically located in the centre of the city, with a paved walkway for you to stroll along the lake. This well-groomed park also features a floating stage where you can catch cultural performances on special occasions. The park is situated 2km away from the Royale Chulan Seremban hotel, so if you happened to be staying there overnight, make sure you make this a must-visit place during the morning after!

2. Discover history at the Negeri Sembilan State Museum

Are you a history buff? Visit the Negeri Sembilan State Museum for an eye-opening look at the history of Negeri Sembilan and its earliest settlers - the Minangkabau tribe who settled in the region in the 1500’s. Unlike other hereditary monarchs of the other royal Malay states, Negeri Sembilan is unique for implementing a matrilineal system - passing down rulers through the mother’s family line. Take your time browsing through the exhibits and don’t forget to visit the replica Minangkabau house situated on the grounds of the museum!

3. Climb up Wu Gong hill to reach the mysterious Centipede Temple

Centipede Temple is the nickname given to Then Tze Temple which sits on a ridge at the top of Wu Gong Hill (Bukit Jung) about 127 metres above sea level. Climb up 264 steps to reach this 140 year-old temple, and be blessed with vantage point views overlooking the green and pleasant countryside. Its namesake comes from a local legend - if you find a centipede on the way up the temple, you’ll be blessed with good luck and prosperity! In fact, a giant stone centipede has even been erected at the site to mark the spot.

4. Meet the largest living bird in the world at Jelita Ostrich Farm

Jelita Ostrich Farms offers visitors a fascinating insight into the life of these flightless fine-feathered friends. Get up close and personal by feeding an ostrich and touching its eggs. If you are up to it, try out various ostrich meat dishes from its shop! The farm also has other animals like ducks, geese, turkeys, goats, and horses to visit. All in all, this would be a great place for a family with young children to visit!
