The Best Rides in Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea

15 Mar 2023

Tokyo is a popular tourist destination and one of the leading places where people head to in Japan. This sprawling metropolitan city is where many come to shop at locations like Ginza, Harajuku and Akihabara, as well as visit temples and historical sites.

One of the attractions that tourists should consider is Tokyo Disney Resort in Uruyasu, about an hour from Tokyo.

Tokyo Disney Resort is home to two major theme parks, Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. Both theme parks have interesting rides you can’t miss. Here they are:

Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast (Tokyo Disneyland)

Located in a life-sized castle, this rise brings you all your favorite scenes and characters from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Visitors will cruise through this trackless ride on spinning teacups, and be treated to animatronic models of Beauty and the Beast characters acting out key scenes from the cartoon, including the classic romantic balcony scene with Belle and the Beast.

Splash Mountain (Tokyo Disneyland)

Splash Mountain is an exciting log flume ride with a 45 degree drop from a 16 meter high waterfall. Be ready to get drenched as you go through this adventurous ride that is mostly slow and calm, but ends with a dramatic yet fulfilling fall.

Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek! (Tokyo Disneyland)

Get on board with Monsters, Inc.’s main characters, Boo, Sulley & Mike on this interactive ride that can only be found here in Tokyo Disneyland.

Each visitor will be given a flashlight, which you can use to shine on various construction hats you’ll find along the way. Any hats you successfully shine a light on will reveal a hidden monster from this beloved Disney and Pixar film.

Pirates of the Caribbean ( Tokyo Disneyland)

Enjoy a gentle ride on a small boat that fits about 20 people, as you glide through caverns and tunnels. This dark ride features a relaxing boat that will bring you through detailed scenes from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series.

You’ll be thrown off with how realistic everything seems, and will have plenty of time to savor all the sights as the boat cruises pretty slowly.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth (Tokyo DisneySea)

At the large volcano in the middle of DisneySea, you’ll find this ride. A detailed entrance greets you,  complete with a cave theme and you’ll have to ride a vessel to reach a set of trams, which will bring you ‘deeper’ into the Earth’s core.

Along the way you’ll see fantastical creatures and rare gemstones that will fuel your imagination.  This is yet another ride that is unique to Tokyo DisneySea and can’t be found in any other Disney theme park.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Tokyo DisneySea)

Inspired by the Jules Verne classic, this aquatic themed ride features a tour into a fantasy underwater world. Visitors will board a submarine where they can enjoy the sights outside the windows,  and meet with sea creatures like a  giant octopus  and purple sea monsters.

Although not technically a ride, the Big Band Beat is something you shouldn’t miss. This retro jazz music variety show takes place in a classic American theater reminiscent of the 1920s swing era.

Tickets can be reserved via the Tokyo Disney Resort app and entrance is by lottery each day. There are several shows per day, each lasting about 30 minutes.
