Finally, Langkawi is opening its borders to all vaccinated tourists! It’s time to plan your long-awaited beach vacation and how excited are we! Here’s our travel guide for you to know about the new travel bubble announced by the Ministry of Tourism so your holiday plans will be smooth and safe sailing! 

Proof of Vaccination Certificate and Low-Risk Status 

 

 

You are required to complete two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and at least 14 days after the 2nd dose vaccination to be able to travel to Langkawi. Double-check your MySejahtera app for your vaccination certificate and your risk status has to be “Low Risk No Symptom” in order for you to travel. 

 

PCR or RTK Test Prior to Travel 

 

 

The Ministry of Tourism noted [on 15th September] that it’s compulsory for travellers to take an RT-PCR or RTK-Antigen swab test prior to their trip. You’ll need to present the swab test result at the airport or ferry terminal. Here are your options! 

1. Upon the designated screening site at the airport or ferry terminal, you conduct the test on the spot with your own purchased self-testing kit.  
2. You may also purchase a self-testing kit at the designated screening site at the airport or ferry terminal.  
3. Conduct the PCR or RTK test at any health facilities within 48 hours prior to the trip and bring the report along with you and present it to the screening site at the terminal. 

Request for Police Permit 

 

 

If you are travelling by flight or travelling from Kedah or Perlis, you don’t need to apply for police permit to travel to Langkawi. However, if you plan to travel by land transport, you need to apply for a police permit at your residential police station and the transportation has to book through a tour agency.  

You also need to keep a copy of all the receipts and booking detail for any of your flight bookings, hotel stays, travel packages, tour activity or transportation rental as proof of visiting Langkawi for travel and leisure purposes.

There’s no age limitation to visit Langkawi. However, children below 18years old are not required to be vaccinated but will have to be accompanied by fully vaccinated parents!

Getting Around in Langkawi!

Aside from the traditional taxi service, there are other options for you to choose to get around the island: 

1. E-hailing – There are multiple e-hailing services offered in Langkawi such as Grab, Maxim and the newly introduced AirAsia Ride.  
2. Car Rental – For small group travellers, car rental is recommended due to the flexibility and convenience. Check out our Langkawi Car Rental package here! 
3. Motorbike - a more affordable choice for a single traveller! Don’t forget to request a helmet for your personal safety! 
4. Bicycle – It can be an experience as exploring the island by bicycle can be challenging due to the terrain of Langkawi. However, it’s recommended for experienced cyclists to get around with this mode of transportation!
