Explore The Wild With This 3D2N Taman Negara Itinerary

Taman Negara, Malaysia’s oldest and most popular national park, sprawls across 1,677 miles of jungle, rivers, and mountains. It is one of the oldest rainforests on earth with an estimated age of at least 130 million years. Check out our 3D2N itinerary to explore what this ancient rainforest can offer!

 

Day 1 

Getting There:

Taman Negara is located around 3.5 hours by van northeast of Kuala Lumpur in Peninsular (West) Malaysia. Before that, you first have to reach Jerantut, a town located to the south just outside national park boundaries in the Malaysian state of Pahang. Once in Jerantut, take a scenic boat ride into the park! Entering by boat takes between 2-3 hours, depending on the conditions of the river.

 

Checking In:

After checking in, you’ll be shown to your accommodations for the duration of the trip. The wooden chalets of Taman Negara offer a scenic respite from the world - with its private balcony facing the garden or the forest itself. Take a break from your journey in your cosy chalet before your next planned activity. 

 

Night Walk

After a hearty dinner at Seri Mutiara restaurant, take a guided night walk and discover the side of the jungle which comes alive at night. Familiarize yourself with nocturnal plants and insects and savour a chance to spot animals up close at the Observation Hide!

If you’re lucky you might be able to catch a sight of nocturnal mammals en-route - commonly spotted are the Sambar deer, mouse deer, porcupines and even the Malayan Tapir! Dress appropriately for the walk with long pants, long sleeve shirt and sports shoes. Don’t forget insect repellent and a flashlight! 

 

Day 2

Canopy Walkway

The day begins with breakfast followed by Taman Negara’s Canopy Walk, the world’s longest canopy walkway at 530m long and 40m above ground level. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of flora and fauna along the walkway! The trek to the canopy is a 2km hike itself - so expect to hike for around 45 minutes to an hour to complete this walkway.  

 

Jungle Trekking to Bukit Teresek

If the canopy walkway wasn’t adventurous enough for you, jungle trekking to Bukit Teresek might appease your wild streak! Trek under the high-density rainforest canopy for about 30 – 45 minutes to reach its peak. From here, you’ll be able to enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of Gunung Tahan and the fabulous rainforest canopy throughout the hills and valleys. 

 

Boat Cruise to Lata Berkoh for a Swim & Picnic

The icing on the cake of the entire day is the boat cruise to Lata Berkoh for a dip into the refreshing cascades at Lata Berkoh which forms a natural Jacuzzi! For those less inclined to getting overly wet, you could enjoy an impressive picnic spread laid out on a small sampan in the water by the banks of the cascades. The cascades are located via a 20-minute boat ride from park headquarters, with an easy 10-minute trail along the river banks to reach there!  

 

*Bonus: Feed the fishes at Kelah Sanctuary

If you’re lucky with the weather, your guide might take you to the Kelah Fish Sanctuary. If you’re brave enough, stand in the water to feed the fish with pellets and watch as a swarm of fish swim towards you! 

 

Day 3 

Say Goodbye!

You’ll be provided with a final breakfast at Seri Mutiara Restaurant before checking out at noon. Take a final look at the magnificent rainforest on your boat ride out of the National Park before heading back to the bustling city.
