Formerly known as the Kota Kinabalu Ferry Terminal, Jesselton Point Waterfront has become one of the main city attractions in Kota Kinabalu. This quaintly scenic place has an unmistakable historical feel to it — complete with olden days snapshots of Kota Kinabalu city (Jesselton) and vintage red English phone booths. With an array of alfresco F&B outlets and food stalls offering unique dining experiences, here you can truly appreciate how spectacular the seemingly ordinary sunset can be. 

Being equatorial, sunsets in East Malaysia religiously begins around 5.30pm - 6pm and it’s all over in about half an hour once the sun dips below the horizon. Find yourself a good position, grab a cocktail and sit back and watch the show. Several cafes and restaurants have tables outside in prime viewing positions, or just wander to the end of the pier and sit on the public benches as you look back on the city basking in an orange glow. 

 

3. Going on a stroll at Kuching Waterfront’s Darul Hana Bridge

Nothing beats going on a romantic stroll after an early dinner, and there’s no better place to go in Kuching than to the Waterfront, where the majestic Darul Hana Bridge awaits. Linking the northern and southern parts of Kuching, the city's spectacular pedestrian bridge is constructed to resemble the letter 'S' (for Sarawak), and the two towers are designed to look like the hornbill-inspired structures of traditional Bidayuh bamboo bridges. Go hand in hand with your partner to one of the two spacious viewing decks, and watch the sun set on the horizon of the sprawling riverfront. 

If the sun has already set after your Valentine dinner, there’s still plenty of festivities you can enjoy on the Kuching waterfront! At night, the whole stretch of the esplanade comes alive with the sounds of buskers filling the air with music. Best of all, stay tuned for the Darul Hana Musical fountain display, resplendent with colourful laser lights and jets of water that shoot up to 8 metres in height! There are 2 shows starting from 8.30pm and 9.30pm respectively, with an additional show starting from 10.30pm on the weekends. 

4. Feed the birds at KL Bird Park

If you and your bae are not one for typical dinner dates, then why not spend an afternoon at the KL Bird Park? Located in the serene and scenic famous Lake Gardens, the KL Bird park is well known as the "World's Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary"! Birds of all shapes and sizes roam around this aviary freely, allowing visitors to come close to these fine-feathered creatures. The highlight of the venue? The bird feeding section where you feed colourful Lory birds with bird seed in your hand. Definitely an experience that you and your bae will definitely not forget!
